In first round of Europe/Africa Qualifying Group I of Fed Cup Estonia defeated Georgia in a match which turned to be more difficult than expected. In first singles Maret Ani lost against Salome Devidze 6-2 4-6 4-6, but in second singles Kaia defeated Margalita Chakhnashvili also in three sets - 1-6 6-4 6-4. Deciding doubles was won by Estonian girls 6-3 7-6 (7-4).

Tomorrow Estonian will meet with Portugal who lost today against Bulgaria 0-3 in second match of the same group.

In second round of Europe/Africa Qualifying Group I of Fed Cup Estonia got a deciding lead against Portugal already after two singles matches. Maret Ani defeated second ranked Portugese Ana Nogueira in there sets 6-2 3-6 6-2 and in battle of number ones Kaia won also in three sets 5-7 6-4 6-2 against Frederica Piedade. In doubles, Ilona Poljakova and Margit Rüütel downed Portugese team Angela Cardoso/Ana Nogueira in straight sets 6-4 6-4.

Tomorrow Estonia will meet the Group C favourite Bulgaria. As Bulgaria defeated Georgia 2-1 in today's second match of this group, Estonian team has secured a place to play-offs that will be held on Saturday and where only top two teams of each group qualify. In those matches 4 teams are selected who meet World Group first round losers in play-offs in July.

In last round of Europe/Africa Qualifying Group I of Fed Cup Estonia was defeated by Bulgaria. Maret Ani lost the first singles 5-7 3-6 against Dessislava Topalova and after that Kaia lost the battle of number ones against 25th ranked Magdalena Maleeva 4-6 2-6. In doubles, Kaia and Maret defeated Bulgarian team Filipa Gabrovska/Radoslava Topalova in two sets 6-4 6-1.

In tomorrow's play-off match Estonian team will meet the best team of Group B - Israel. Slovenia, winner of Group A will meet Yugoslavia; Bulgaria, who won Estonian Group (C), will meet Ukraine and winner of Group D - Luxembourg, will face Holland.

In last day of Europe/Africa Qualifying Group I of Fed Cup play-off matches were played. Estonia was facing Israel and the winner of the match was clear already after singles. Maret Ani lost against Tzipora Obziler 3-6 3-6 and Kaia was not able to surprise 34th ranked Anna Smashnova in meeting of number ones. Kaia lost 1-6 3-6. Doubles match, that was already unimportant in context of final outcome of the match, was not held.

As a result of play-off matches 4 teams were selected who will try to qualify to highest league in World Group Qualifying Round held in July 20th and 21st. Slovenia, Holland and Ukraine qualified to this event together with Israel. Japan, China and two Americas Qualifying Group will join those teams in July.
