Brisbane International

Brisbane AUS, 29.12. – 04.01.2014 / Premier

KAIA KANEPI — ALEXANDRA PANOVA / 135. RUS /

6:3 | 6(8):7 | 6:2

Kaia won

Kaia won in two hours 6:3/6:7/6:2.

Kaia’s own words: “The draw in the first round was interesting as two years ago I played against Panova in the opening round and won in the third set. The match today was okay, considering it was quite long time since my last match. The court here is fast and there were not many long points. The serve was working well, except fore these two games in the second set when I was a break up. I got a little nervous as I sometimes do when ahead. In the decider I was more solid.”

Next up will be Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP, WTA 17). Kaia is leading their head-to-head 3:2. The match will be played tomorrow at 19 local time/ 11 Estonian time.

Brisbane International

Brisbane AUS, 29.12. – 04.01.2014 / Premier

KAIA KANEPI — CARLA SUAREZ NAVARRO / 17. ESP /

6:2 | 6:2

Kaia won

Kaia won 6:2 6:2 and reached to the quarterfinals.

Kaia’s own words: “I fell behind 0:2 in the beginning of the first set, but it did not go easy, I was making mistakes during the points and she played very well. This gave me courage to continue aggressively, you have to be aggressive playing against her and my touch on the ball was actually not bad. At some point she started to make more mistakes and I could level the score. Suddenly I realised that I had won six games in a row. In the second set I was dictating, I hit deep and it worked. I felt good on the court and in overall it was a very competitive match.”

Next up will be Maria Sharapova (WTA 4, RUS) who received a walkover from her second round opponent. Sharapova is leading the head-to-head against Kaia 2:0. The match will be played on Thursday ata 3:30 Estonian time/ 11:30 local time.

KAIA KANEPI — MARIA SHARAPOVA / 4. RUS /

6:4 | 3:6 | 2:6

Kaia lost

Kaia lost in 2 hours after winning the opening set 6:4 3:6 2:6.

Kaia’s own words: „I am happy that I stayed in the rallies at the baseline and I played quite well from there. My serve touch and rhythm was not good today and I think this was decisive. I did not get any initiative with my serve and the first serve percentage was low. I won the first set as she did not serve great then. In the second and third set she was serving much better.“

Kaia got 100 ranking points from Brisbane International and she will move up to the 25th place in the rankings next week. Next tournament will be WTA Premier event in Sydney starting on Sunday.
