Abierto Mexicano TELCEL

Acapulco Mexico, 24.02. – 01.03.2014 / International

KAIA KANEPI — JANA CEPELOVA / 65. SVK /

6:1 | 3:6 | 6:2

Kaia won

Kaia won in 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Kaia’s own words: “I got food poisoning two days before the match and nothing has helped it so far. I do not know how I won the match. I played very aggressively as I could not manage to play long points. It all worked very well in the first set, in the second set she was more aggressive and at 3:4 she made two winner returns in a row on my very good first serves and there was nothing to do. In the third set again I was better and so it went.”

The second round opponent will be Julia Goerges (GER, WTA 88). The match will be played on Wednesday night at centre court.

KAIA KANEPI — JULIA GOERGES / 88. GER /

6(4):7 | 6:4 | 7:6(6)

Kaia won

Kaia won in 2 hours and 43 minutes against Julia Goerges saving one match point in the final set tie break.

Kaia's own words: "it was very up and down today. Once I played well then she played better and so on. We both are aggressive players. She served very well in the end of the first set. I played better in the second set. In the third set she was 4:1 up and had a match point in the tie break, where she double faulted. I do not know exactly how I pulled through. I remember thinking at 1:4 down in the decider that it is just one break difference and until it is not all over, I still have a chance."

Kaia will play Christina McHale (USA, WTA 70) in the quarterfinals. The math will be played on Thursday not before 17:30 local time / Friday morning at 02:30 Estonian time.
