Kaia lost

In the first round of US Open qualification tournament Kaia played against 23rd seed, 26 year old Czech player Alena Vaskova (WTA No 131) and lost in more than 1,5 hours and three very competitive sets 6-2 4-6 6-7(4). Kaia started the match very confidently, and took 4-0 lead. In fifth game her serve was broken once, but Kaia answered with her own break three games later and won the set
6-2.

First game of second set was quite long and unfortunately Kaia wasn't able to hold her serve. In 6th game she managed to balance the score to 3-3 and even took a lead by 4-3, but at 4-4 Vaskova got two deciding points on 40-40 and won the second set by holding her serve in last game. Second set - 6-4 to Vaskova.

First six games of the third set showed us only breaks of serve - although Kaia broke opponent's serve comparatively easy, she couldn't hold her own serves either, but on 7th game Kaia was the first one to hold serve. At 4-4 Vaskova broke Kaia's service game quite easily and the script of the second set seemed to be repeated again. Fortunately, Kaia had more luck this time and after one match point she balanced the score again to 5-5.

In deciding moments, both players were very confident on their serve and fate of the match was decided in tie-break.

Kaia started to serve: 0-1. Then, both players got only one point of their two serves and by breaking Kaia at 3-4 Vaskova seemed to have achieved quite a solid advantage of 3-5. Kaia managed to hold her serve, but Vaskova used her chance by winning the tie-break
7-4.
