Kaia reached the final at the $25,000 ITF Women's Circuit tournament in Galatina, Italy. In today's semifinal she had to play the 3rd seed and 112th ranked Martina Sucha of Slovak Republic, but due to shoulder injury she had to withdraw.
In tomorrow's final Kaia will meet Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez (#325) who defeated her compatriot and 4th seed Arantxa Parra in three close sets 6-4 4-6 7-6(2).
Despite the current ranking, Maria Jose Martinez is quite experienced player who has beaten such top players as Patty Schnyder (SUI), Barbara Schett (AUT) and Sandrine Testud (FRA) in recent years. Even at Australian Open 2001 she surprised Venus Williams by taking a set from her in first round of the tournament.
