Kaia plays in Stuttgart

Kaia is planning to play her first competitive match after January in Stuttgart WTA premier event this week.

Kaia’s own words: “After quite a long break, I will play this week in Stuttgart's qualifications. I’m exited to play again and lets see how well it goes.

But. During last 18 months I have had shorter and longer breaks due to different illnesses. There has been countless number of tests and consultations with myriad of doctors. It is plain and simple that I’m not able to practice and play as much as it is needed to be competitive in the highest level. To be more specific - Epstein Barr virus is what is bothering me and will show up during stressful situations. It has also caused mononucleosis. So, as I had already quite minimum practice-competition schedule due to my heels, now it looks like I have to tune it down even more. One can dream but it is quite clear to me that competing at the absolute top level is not possible with such minimal preparation.

I do not know exactly how much I can play, therefore I do not have a specific competition schedule nor goals for this season. I will play one tournament at a time and try to enjoy my game. It is to be seen whether I can stay healthy, how I feel emotionally, what level I can achieve and will that satisfy me or not. For sure I do not want to end my career here. The plan forward is to enjoy my game as much as I can with all the limitations and then we’ll see if I play tennis forever or not ☺”

The qualification of Porsche Tennis Grand Prix will start on Saturday, April 16th.
