Kaia withdrew from Rome due to right heel injury

After consulting with doctors in Madrid, Kaia decided to withdraw from Rome WTA tournament due to right heel injury.

Kaia’s own words: „I started to feel pain again in my right heel after first round match in Miami. Usually some minor pain in the heel passes within one day, it took two weeks to recover this time. It also affected my preparation for the clay season as I could only play once a day. During past tournaments I could only play the first set without any pain, then I started to feel some pain in the heel again.

After my first round loss in Madrid I consulted with several doctors who in overall were optimistic. They said that it is common for athletes and with right treatment and exercises it is possible to overcome it. Right now I give my legs a bit rest and do recreational exercises that the doctors suggested. I do plan to participate in Paris and Wimbledon.“

Kaia won in 2 hours and 43 minutes against Julia Goerges saving one match point in the final set tie break.

Kaia's own words: "it was very up and down today. Once I played well then she played better and so on. We both are aggressive players. She served very well in the end of the first set. I played better in the second set. In the third set she was 4:1 up and had a match point in the tie break, where she double faulted. I do not know exactly how I pulled through. I remember thinking at 1:4 down in the decider that it is just one break difference and until it is not all over, I still have a chance."
